Dynamic Rehab Orthotics made local and custom for you by Peak Orthotics
Dynamic Rehab orthotics are individually designed inserts that fit inside your footwear to not only support your feet in an optimal position, but also strengthen the muscles that will help keep them there. This is done using a semi-rigid foam rather than a hard plastic design. In partnership with Peak Orthotics, a local and reputable manufacturer, we provide a comprehensive assessment of how your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and overall movement work together to determine whether orthotics may be beneficial for you.
How can orthotics help?
Orthotics can help redistribute pressure and load through the foot and lower limb, improve comfort and alignment, and support more efficient movement while strengthening the muscles of the feet.
They may be recommended as part of treatment for conditions such as:
Plantar heel pain and plantar fasciopathy
Foot and arch pain
Achilles tendon problems
Shin pain
Some types of knee pain
Certain running-related injuries
Forefoot pain
Pain associated with prolonged standing or walking
Foot fatigue or discomfort during activity
Lower-limb conditions where additional foot support may be beneficial
Frequently asked Questions
-
Your physiotherapist will discuss your symptoms, activities, footwear, and goals before assessing your feet and lower-limb movement.
Depending on your needs, the assessment may include looking at your standing posture, walking or running mechanics, foot and ankle movement, strength, and overall lower-limb function.
If you and your physiotherapist decide custom orthotics are appropriate, your physiotherapist will take a foam impression cast of both feet in a weightbearing position to ensure the best results.
-
There is usually an adjustment period when you first begin wearing new orthotics. Most people adjust to their orthotics within ~2-3 weeks.
Your physiotherapist will provide guidance on gradually increasing the amount of time you wear them. If they remain uncomfortable or your symptoms change, adjustments may be possible.
-
Not necessarily.
Dynamic rehab orthotics are not intended to create dependence or replace rehabilitation. In some cases, they may be used temporarily while you address strength, mobility, or other contributing factors. In other situations, they may continue to provide useful support during specific activities.
Not sure if custom orthotics are right for you?
If you're experiencing foot, ankle, knee, or running-related pain, a physiotherapy assessment can help determine whether custom orthotics may be beneficial, or whether another approach would be more appropriate.
